# Scan an Asset QR Code

Scan an AssetIQ QR code to identify a labelled asset and open its authorised record using the supported mobile workflow.

The information and actions available after scanning depend on your assigned role and data-access permissions.

## Before you begin

Make sure that:

- You are signed in to the supported AssetIQ mobile workflow.
- Your device has a working camera.
- AssetIQ has permission to use the camera.
- The asset has a readable AssetIQ QR label.
- You have permission to view the asset.

## Scan the QR code

1. Open the supported AssetIQ mobile workflow.
2. Select the available QR scanning action.
3. Allow camera access if prompted.
4. Position the asset’s QR code inside the scanning area.
5. Hold the device steady until the code is recognised.
6. Wait for the asset record to open.
7. Compare the displayed asset number or name with the physical label.

Do not continue if the displayed record does not match the physical asset.

## Confirm the asset record

After scanning:

- Confirm the asset identifier.
- Review the asset name and description.
- Confirm the organisation, entity or location where applicable.
- Check that the available information and actions are appropriate for your role.

A successful scan opens the correct authorised asset record.

## The QR code will not scan

If the QR code is not recognised:

- Clean the label and device camera.
- Improve the lighting.
- Reduce glare or reflections.
- Hold the device at a different distance.
- Keep the QR code flat and completely visible.
- Confirm that the label is not torn, faded or obstructed.
- Try scanning another known working AssetIQ QR code.

## Camera access is unavailable

If AssetIQ cannot use the camera:

1. Open the device settings.
2. Find the AssetIQ application or supported scanning workflow.
3. Enable camera permission.
4. Return to AssetIQ.
5. Try the scan again.

Follow your organisation’s mobile-device policies when changing permissions.

## The wrong asset opens

If the scanned code opens the wrong asset:

1. Stop using the asset record.
2. Compare the displayed identifier with the physical label.
3. Record the affected asset and label details.
4. Notify your AssetIQ administrator.
5. Remove or clearly mark the incorrect label if authorised.
6. Generate and test a replacement QR label.

## Access is denied after scanning

A valid QR code does not override AssetIQ permissions. If access is denied, ask your administrator to confirm your role, entity, location and department access.
